Eras of Lebron James

Era: Lakers (2018-Present)

A New Chapter

In 2018, LeBron James signed with the Los Angeles Lakers, joining one of the NBA’s most storied franchises. After spending years dominating in the Eastern Conference, LeBron embraced a new challenge in the Western Conference while also expanding his influence in Hollywood and the entertainment industry. The move symbolized not only his commitment to achieving more success on the court but also his growing ambitions off it.

Struggles

LeBron’s debut season with the Lakers was challenging. Despite his strong individual performances—averaging 27.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 8.3 assists—the team struggled with injuries, including a groin injury that sidelined LeBron for 17 games. The Lakers missed the playoffs, marking the first time since 2005 that LeBron failed to make the postseason.

Vengeance

LeBron returned with a vengeance in the 2019-2020 season, pairing up with superstar Anthony Davis to form a dominant duo. The Lakers secured the #1 seed in the Western Conference, and LeBron led the team to the NBA Finals in the unprecedented setting of the NBA Bubble, created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the Finals, the Lakers faced the Miami Heat, LeBron’s former team. His leadership and all-around brilliance were on full display as he averaged 29.8 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 8.5 assists, earning his fourth NBA championship and his fourth Finals MVP. This victory marked the Lakers’ 17th title, tying them with the Boston Celtics for the most in league history.

Legacy

As a veteran, LeBron has embraced the role of mentor to younger players like Austin Reaves and others, while continuing to lead the Lakers to playoff contention. His ability to adapt his game and remain an elite player well into his late 30s speaks to his dedication and basketball IQ. In 2023, Lebron broke the all-time scoring record of 38,000 held by Kareem Abdul Jabbar, became the oldest current NBA players, and has been in the NBA for over 21 years. In 2024 to present, though with some criticism for the media, Lebron James plays with his son Bronny in the Lakers currently. His son is the No.55th pick in the 2024 NBA draft and is expected to carry on his father's legacy.
